For our fourth edition, we have decided to expand our range a little bit outside of the downtown corridor. This time around, you’ll see a few Highland Square, Kenmore, Middlebury and even Cuyahoga Falls small businesses crop up. But don’t worry, we are still dedicated to our focus on downtown, which is walkable from campus and is home to our community partner, Downtown Akron Partnership.
We delight in introducing you to the people behind the storefronts you pass daily and we enjoy sharing the neat little spaces that people will later say “I wish I knew about this earlier.” Come along with us to find out about patio dining, summer fun, and most notably, all the amazing people behind gifts that will make Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation, summer birthdays and everyday gifting opportunities something special.
About 35 students were involved in the research, writing and design of this edition. When you read ZipsGuide, you support their learning and lend ears to their voices about their own community.
We have also expanded the page count by nearly double and created smaller themed magazines for more targeted audiences (scroll down to find them).
Congratulations students whose work appears in this guide. I have loved watching you grow as writers and designers, and seeing you become better acquainted with all our city has to offer. Thanks to our sponsors, WAOH TV and Downtown Akron Partnership for purchasing advertising in the edition.
Perhaps most of all thank you for reading the work of these dedicated students and for shopping small and local in downtown Akron.
Sincerely,
Professor Julie A Cajigas
